Our organization represents all the state licensed river and harbor pilots in the United States. Since our previous Biennial convention in 2022 we have looked to include a session on leadership training directed at the up-and-coming leaders as well as those in current positions. Colonel Gordon came recommended by one of our senior leaders based on exposure to previous presentations.
Colonel Gordon addressed our membership at our 2024 convention. Prior to speaking there, he took the time to meet with the local pilot association and ride with pilots there to see the operation and its challenges firsthand. This experience along with his own extensive career as a USMC Officer allowed him to speak with authority to the audience. His message to our membership on leadership and its development were clear, concise and well received. This comes from his keen understanding and infusion of world and military history. This is well documented in his book, “Marine Maxims.”
